As part of the Newton Aycliffe Neighbourhood Plan, students in Year 11 at Woodham Academy have volunteered to sit on the Thematic group which will make decisions about the future spending and facilities provided by the plan.
At Woodham Academy, students are part of the decision making process at all levels. There are six democratically elected students from each year group that sit on the Year Council and two that are put forward to sit on the School Council.
Every year there is an application process at the end of Year 10 for one student to become Associate Student Governor at the school to represent the student voice within the governing body. The students who will represent the school as part of the Newton Aycliffe Neighbourhood Plan are Niamh Broad and Meghan Cumming, both currently sit on the School Council.
Sarah McGinnety, Associate Assistant Head Teacher at the school says ‘The youngsters’ input is vital to the process which is planning the future of Great Aycliffe for the next 20 years. The students are looking forward to shaping the future of their community.’
