LIFE Church in Aycliffe are already preparing Christmas Hampers for families in difficult circumstances in our community. This initiative, known as ‘Christmas Lunch on Jesus’, will be led by LIFE Church hoping to feed an extra 250 people on Christmas Day. If more funding comes in from people’s generosity then more will be delivered.
We already know of many people who will spend Christmas Day locked in their homes with little food and no friends. Our hope is through his distribution of Christmas Hampers it will demonstrate that love is more than a word. LIFE Church is also fully supporting the Helping Hands Christmas Day Lunch at Woodham Golf and Country Club but these hampers will go to people who would rather eat in their own homes and It’s good that people have a choice.
Orgnaiser Alwyn White said “We are extremely excited packing the hampers with Christmas goodies including a turkey, stuffing, carrots, brussel sprouts, potatoes, gravy, Christmas pudding, chocolates and non-alcoholic wine. Each box also contains a booklet about the real meaning of Christmas. They will be given free of charge to people in our community – those on benefits, income support and pensioners.
Our research shows that four out of five people taking out payday loans do so to buy food and the loans create spirals of poverty that people really struggle to get out of. The high interest rates and charges push people into desperate situations and increase their poverty. We are hoping this new initiative will prevent a lot of this happening.
We need your help!
