The Rotary Club Charity Night last Tuesday at the British Legion was full of good fun, fine entertainment, dancing and excellent pie and peas all for just £5!
A total of £735 was raised to be shared between the Poppy Appeal and Rotary Charities. Most of the money came from the generosity of those present buying tickets for the Raffle and Tombola.
President David Anderson thanked everyone for their support – in particular the donors of valuable prizes for the event. He also thanked the British Legion Committee for allowing free use of their Concert Room and to Paul and Sue Land for their usual excellent support for Charity Nights where they work hard to provide an enjoyable night for everyone.
All present raved over the fabulous entertainer Drew Gerrard who worked hard over two sessions as Samantha Mac, the second act, was unable to perform due to illness.
Drew has a great voice and with his wonderful personality and great humour was well received by the audience. He thanked Kevin and Lisa O’Connor “The Formidable”, who helped him on stage with a fantastic sound system.
Ian Bateman, (Mr B’s Karaoke & Disco) popular local DJ, also gave his time free and kept the evening alive with great music.
The Rotary Club are grateful to the British Legion for their continued support in offering their superb facilities for the Charity Nights.
The following donated prizes for the event: Homeplan, The County Aycliffe Village, Woodham Golf club, Shafto Way Garage, Walkers Butchers, Holiday Inn, Bay Horse, Heighington, Scott & Co., Macdonalds, Planet Leisure, Oakleaf Sports Complex, Wilkinsons, and One Gym on the Business Park.
