The Greenfield Gallery is hosting a fantastic new exhibition “The Mad Natters on Route 21” brings together a number of established local artists from across the region.
Many of the artists have a strong connection to Greenfield Arts – exhibiting work in the gallery in the past, delivering and taking part in creative workshops and creating work on site as Artists in Residence. We are pleased to be able to host this exhibition which brings them all together.
The artists are all part of a recently formed collective “The Mad Natters,” artists working across the “Pallatine” the area from the Tyne to the Tees. The artists exhibiting here in South Tyneside, Gateshead, East & West Durham, and mid- Durham, creating a wide variety of work, exhibiting regionally, nationally and internationally.
The artists are: Bill Harris, Bruce Burn, Barrie West, Angela Sandwith, Cathy Duncan, David Gross, Joyce McCallum, Victoria Leeks, Stephen Sproates, Jackie Stonehouse, Alex Surtees and Stephen Twidale.
The work shown in The Greenfield Gallery has strong links to the County, with the overall theme of the bus Route 21 (as the Natters are currently based in Peterlee). There is a vast range of work from sculpture, to textiles, painting and mixed media, as well as a “live” art piece created on site by Barrie West.
The show presents a unique and important educational opportunity in this venue, with our link to Greenfield Community College and local primary schools. Over the coming weeks we hope to host visits from a range of young people to work alongside some of the artists to create and reflect on their own work.
There is another educational link to the exhibition – through an event taking place at the end of the exhibition, hosted and sponsored by the Mayor of Great Aycliffe to support one of her charities. The Mayor, Mrs Wendy Hillary, said: “As the Mayor I am very pleased to be involved with the Mad Natters project and appreciate their support, both for the schools in my town, encouraging students to go into further education, and also for supporting the County of Durham School Benevolent Fund Charity.”
The exhibition is open until Wednesday 12th November Monday to Thursday, 10am – 9pm, and Fridays 10am – 4pm. For more information and how to find us visit www.greenfield-arts.co.uk
