Sedgefield Water Polo Club who play at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre travelled to Maltby for the Rotherham under 13 tournament.
Sedgefield split their squad into two teams to give everyone a lot of water time. The Orange team started off with a disappointing loss to Yorkshire Champions Rotherham 10-4. They then defeated Castleford comfortably 10-3 and were too strong for Sheffield winning 12-1. In their final group game they dominated their Green team mates winning 10-3.
Sedgefield Orange having finished second in the group games faced Rotherham which saw a big transformation in Sedgefield’s play and performance turning the tables on the home team and winning 8-6. The Sedgefield Green team finished 3rd in the group and played off against Castleford for the bronze medal and in a tight game won 7-6.
This was another excellent performance by the North East’s Junior Team, Sedgefield against Yorkshire’s best teams.
Michael Hampshire 12 was ‘Player of the Tournament’ as top scorer in the whole competition. The outstanding players for the Green team were Hollie Turnbull and Kate Harrison both 12.
