Greenfield College’s English department were overwhelmed by record results English and English literature this summer, with 88% of students gaining a grade C and above.
Despite a fall nationally in A*/A grades, 25% of Greenfield students reversed this trend with many achieving far beyond their target grades.
Subject leader, Martin Smith, stated “I am delighted that our students have been so successful across the board, of course it’s fantastic when they achieve grade A and A*, but we were even more thrilled by the high levels of progress made by students across the whole year group.” Whilst the government’s gold standard requires young people to attain a grade C or above, it is of course, not possible for everyone.
At Greenfield the focus is on each individual child being stretched to succeed with at least 3 levels of progress from their entrance into the school, and whilst 95% of them accomplished this, the majority achieved at least 4 levels with a considerable number exceeding even this with 5 and 6 levels of progress. Jack Travis a 2014 leaver, who has just started A-levels at Queen Elizabeth sixth form college, was one of these, he was predicted two grade C grades in English and Literature and walked away with two grade A*s!
Plans for even greater success are already underway this September with Greenfield students attacking the challenges of the new curriculum, eager to beat the record set by the 2014 leavers.
