County Durham’s British Heart Foundation (BHF) shops are asking people to set themselves a challenge in the fight against heart disease this September as part of their new stock donation campaign – the Great British Bag-athon.

The BHF shops in the County are aiming to generate 1,000 bags each during September and will need all the help they can get from big hearted locals to reach their target. Each bag is worth an average of £20, helping the BHF continue its life-saving work in the local area.

Getting involved in the Great British Bag-athon couldn’t be easier, just one bag can make a difference or people can take on a challenge and set their own bag target. Anything from 5, 10, 20 or more bags will make a huge difference to the County Durham shops.

Martin Newton, area manager for the BHF County Durham shops, said: “I’d like to encourage all County Durham people to get involved and join in the Great British Bag-athon. BHF shops sell 90,000 items daily so donations from the local community are vital. We’re always keen to receive County Durham’s lovely clothing, accessories, handbags, shoes, books, CDs and DVDs so get filling those bags now. Every bag you fill makes a real difference and is worth on average £20 to the BHF.”

Visit bhf.org.uk/bagathon to find out more and to sign up for the challenge, or pop into the Aycliffe shop today for further information and to donate.

For anyone taking on the challenge and filling lots of bags, the BHF shop can collect items free from your doorstep. Call 0844 334 1400 to book your collection.
