It is 2 years since discussions started with local residents on building a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) in Horndale.Last week work began on this fantastic project and I was very proud to see the hard work done by the Residents Association and its supporters come to fruition.
It has been rewarding to have the help and support of so many people who saw the potential and need for this facility. I would like to thank the Town Council for without their commitment, initially and long term, the M.U.G.A project would not have been possible. I would especially thank Andrew Bailey (Town Clerk) and his staff also Niki Duffy of Livin who were instrumental in helping complete funding applications and kept us going when things seemed to stand still.
People like Dorothy Bowman, PC Mike Welch and Litza Johnson (Aycliffe Youth Centre) gave us support from the beginning, as have many others including Great Aycliffe Town Council, County Councillors, Newton Aycliffe Rotary Club, G.A.M.P, Roc Solid, Aycliffe Youth Solid, Honest John, Tyne Tees Demolition, Livin, Christ’s Hospital Sherburn, Newton Aycliffe Evangelical Church and Durham Police.
This has been a classic joint effort to give the young people of our neighbourhoods a recreation area and hopefully it will reduce anti-social behaviour around the streets and homes where we live. Once again a big thank you to everyone who has helped
