Last week after a busy few days planning we held a fantastic preview event for the most recent exhibition in The Greenfield Gallery. ”Bishops Close Street” is an exhibition of work by Norman Cornish MBE, County Durham’s most celebrated artist.
The exhibition includes some recently discovered work and a selection of sketchbooks, around the theme of “Bishops Close Street” where the family lived from the early 1950s until 1967. The work provides a rare and wonderful insight into the preparatory research and development of ideas by Norman Cornish which subsequently appeared in many of his paintings.
Wendy Hillary, Mayor of Great Aycliffe, opened the exhibition followed by a short talk by Councillor Robert Fleming, Leader of the Council, who provided insight and memories of Bishops Close Street and Spennymoor at that time.
Greenfield Arts would like to thank Mrs Hillary, Mr Fleming and all those who attended the Preview.
The exhibition is now open to the public during normal Arts Centre opening hours (Monday – Thursday 10am – 9pm, Fridays 10am – 4pm).
