Recently Professor Sugata Mitra of Newcastle University returned to Greenfield Arts to see the fantastic progress in Room 13. The enquiry space was funded by Professor Mitra as part of his TED funded “School in the Cloud” research.
Greenfield is one of only 2 Schools in the Cloud labs in the UK, and 7 worldwide. This is a great honour and opportunity for Greenfield Arts and Greenfield Community College to support Professor Mitra’s research.
During the course of the day Professor Mitra saw a number of SOLE sessions in action, as well as speaking to staff and students at Greenfield Community College about the space and the research. He was impressed how much the room has been used by staff and students since opening in February, and amazed by the impact it seems to be having on teaching and learning at Greenfield.
The day also included a chance for Sugata to meet Greenfield’s “Engine Heads” a group of enthusiastic students who have used the room multiple times and who will be involved in planning future activity in the space.
Professor Mitra said that space is performing beyond expectations, and he is impressed with the number of staff and students who have been using the space with interest.
After talking to staff and students he is interested to see what impact the sessions are having in the classroom. The visit has left everyone at Greenfield enthused about the research, with ideas and areas to focus on for the future!
