Aycliffe company Whurk Recruitment held a Christmas party with a difference – a champagne reception to say thank you to its clients for a spectacularly successful first year in business. Whurk was founded by Managing Director Laura Claughan only in April, but 2013 has seen the business grow rapidly to a team of eight. The company provides high quality recruitment in a number of areas, including manufacturing, engineering and distribution.
Laura chose to set up her business in Newton Aycliffe because of the recent vibrancy of the Business Park. And she told her guests that she cannot wait to start the new year, which will see the firm introducing more new ideas and initiatives: ‘There is a deep satisfaction in putting the right person in the right job, especially just before Christmas, with all that means for that person and their family.’
Great Aycliffe’s Mayor Barbara Clare, who attended the party, said she was pleased to be able to share Whurk’s celebration. Barbara has made it one of her main aims as Mayor to build links with Aycliffe’s businesses, to let them know how much they are valued by the community.
Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) comprise by far the largest part of County Durham’s economy; if each of them were to employ just one extra worker, the County’s unemployment problem would be solved.
