Aycliffe artist Dan Walls has produced a lot of indoor and outdoor murals all around the North East. He has also painted a multitude of canvases, custom sprayed guitars and vehicles. He moved from tattoo studios and now works casually at Aycliffe’s Life Line Ink.
His business “Illumination Wall Art” has been growing quickly with 200 pieces of art completed including work for local of businesses. He was commissioned by Durham brewery for 3 custom pieces of art for their limited edition ales. He has designed posters and illustrations for Planet Leisure’s live music events. Dan has launched a website www.illuminationwallart. Since I started experimenting with vehicle spraying I have had a good amount of requests for it, one of the most memorable was for Hardwick live where I was commissioned to spray paint a huge mobile bar with 70’s style artwork that was a challenge but loads of fun! I have also just finished some work for this year’s Polar Express Project in Weardale. With them being licenced by Warner Brothers it’s always a lot of fun to use their resources and get in the Christmas spirit.
Dan has worked with charities, raising money and teaching young people a little about the value of art and having pride in our area.
He worked alongside the Trimdon Village Council and was able to produce a large outdoor mural that acted as the back drop to their new play area. Amopng others Dan has connections with the Princes Trust, Albert Parks Sea Cadets, and Durham Recovery Centre where people get advice and counselling for drug and alcohol related problems.
He hosted street art workshops for Durham P.A.C.C where he spent a week with some troubled kids and got them to think more about their environment and how they can express themselves with art as an alternative to anti-social behaviour. and he is in talks to do a similar project in Newton Aycliffe Youth Centre.
Future projects involve Greenfeild Art’s Centre and hopefully He will be doing something huge at a local up and coming gym over Christmas! Dan hopes to work in France next year where he hopes to build a network and meet interesting people.
