Shildon member and European U23 medalist Kate Avery completed an excellent month over on the college XC circuit in America where she represents Iona College. Kate combined victories at the Maac Championships and Iona Meet of Champions together with an excellent 3rd place at the NCAA div1 Championships at Terre Haute on the 23rd.
Kate will be hoping to gain International honours representing GB (pending selection) at the European XC Championships.
Closer to home, the latest NE Harrier League XC took place at Jarrow on the 24th and and a small contingent from Shildon’s middle distance group came up with some excellent results. Star billing went to Lizzie Cramb in the U15 girl’s race. Lizzie was running from the fast pack finished in 10th place, recording the 6th fastest time of the day.
At the U11’s mixed race Chloe Fairclough ran a solid race to finish 35th overall and 12th girl in 5 min. Following Chloe home, Thomas Raith 5 min, Adam Hanby 5m 32s, Thomas Boynton 6m 55s and Callum Darby 6m 59s.
Shildon’s Sprinters also recorded some excellent results during the Gateshead indoor standards meeting on the 21st. U13g’s Rachel Bennett and Maddie Wells raced to new 60m pb’s in 8.56s and 8.63s respectively, times which places them 2nd and 3rd in the early season UK rankings for their age group! U15g Jade Hepple was also on the pb trail in 60m and 60m Hurdles at this meet, well done girl’s!
Back in Shildon, Hackworth Park run saw Chris Griffith record a new pb (21.37) on his way to a 2nd place finish. Ian Rudge (24.10) also recorded a pb when finishing 5th and Hazel Johnson completed the Shildon contingent as she came home 2nd female in 26.03.
