Emphatic “Yes” For Town Centre Police Office
There has been an astounding response to Great Aycliffe Residents’ Association’s Survey on Policing in Newton Aycliffe.
Without exception every one of the forms returned asks for a Police Station in the Town Centre. The simple “Yes or No” question has come down resoundingly in favour of a permament police presence in the centre of town.
When questioned further many say it is just the feeling of security one has knowing the Police Station is on hand at the centre of things.
People agree we need not have a massive building and it is right to demolish the old Police Station and use the site for another purpose. But it is also right to have a police office situated centrally just as it is right to have a Library or other public facilities.
The Public Meeting called for 19th July at St. Mary’s Church will discuss the issue and be part of the conclusions drawn ready for another public meeting in September at which the Police Authority will be in attendance. Please come along at 7pm and air your views.
The police are still consulting on the matter and are in contact with the Town Council so it is important we let them and the Council know what residents think before any proposals are put forward.
A last minute topic has been added to the agenda. Bin Collections in some areas of the town are being affected by the County Council requesting householders bring the wheelie bins to easy collection points for the wagons.
This is causing inconvenience for a number of reasons and residents wish to object.
