Alice Jordan who attends a special school in Peterlee wowed the crowds at Great Ayclife show with her amazing voice.
A year ago the Youth Centre Management Committee ran an “Aycliffe’s got Talent”
Contest. Steve Metcalf and Gerry Starkey from Music Junction, a new business on Aycliffe Business Park with a recording studio, came to the Youth Centre and after speaking with the Chairman Vince Crosby and Joan Clark Secretary agreed to sponsor the event.
Alice was a competitor and Steve seeing her potential gave her special training and made a recording. Before all this Alice could not even speak to a group let alone sing, due to her learning difficulties.
Music Junction aims to help young people discover through music and creative activities, their true potential and find ways of developing their skills and talent. They build confidence and self-belief and are equipped with skills to help them through life.
Music Junction provides workshops in Song writing, lyric writing and arrangement, singing solo and choral. With many other musical activities all this takes place in Newton Aycliffe Youth Centre followed by work in the studio for recording production.
The studio is opposite Newton Press in St Cuthbert’s House and people can always call in. Alice, with Steve’s coaching and subject to funding, will be off to New York to sing. Newton Aycliffe Youth Centre are planning to hold a concert soon – watch out for another opportunity to hear a star of the future.
