The Pioneering Care Partnership (PCP) is looking for volunteers to help with a project aimed at improving the health, wellbeing and quality of life for local people.
The PCP Health Buddy Scheme is aimed at people living in or around Newton Aycliffe, Bishop Auckland, Shildon, Spennymoor, Sedgefield and Ferryhill who may feel isolated, lonely or vulnerable, to regain their independence and confidence.
As a Volunteer Befriender/Health Buddy you will develop a trusting relationship with clients, help them with shopping or attending medical appointments, encourage them to engage with social activities or groups and access services, or simply take the time to listen over a cup of tea.
If you know your community, are patient and reliable then this could be an ideal opportunity for you. A full training and support package will be provided by PCP and volunteers can give a minimum of 2 hours a week.
Grace is 34 and is currently volunteering as a Health Buddy for the scheme; she says “I wanted to volunteer in an area which helps other people. This role has not only helped me get out of the house more, I can fit it around my family commitments. I find everyone so friendly and welcoming. I have enjoyed meeting people and it has not only given me the satisfaction of helping others, I have gained qualifications and experience, which will help me find employment when I’m ready.”
If you are interested in this volunteering role please contact Fiona Chrichard, Health Buddy Development Worker, tel: 01325 321234 email: healthbuddy@pcp.uk.net based at the Pioneering Care Centre, Carers Way. Newton Aycliffe, DL5 4SF.
