Students at UTC South Durham are celebrating after receiving top grades in Level 3 and GCSE courses that have allowed many students to go to University and secure Degree Level Apprenticeships.
This years A Level students achieved a 98% pass rate, the highest rate ever since UTC opened in 2016. This success highlights the strength and depth of the tailored curriculum, designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for both higher education and the world of work.
One Sixth Form student who secured a degree level apprenticeship was Alisha Paige-Leather who will start at Sellafield as an apprentice nuclear engineer. Two students have secured apprenticeships with companies they have worked with during their time at UTC. Edward Crumper (pictured) has been successful in securing an apprenticeship at DBS Fabrications and Luke Ibbertson has landed an apprenticeship at Husqvarna.
At the GCSE level, many students significantly exceeded their baseline assessments, demonstrating the substantial academic progress made whilst studying at UTC. As a result, a large number of students have chosen to continue their studies at UTC’s Sixth Form.
UTC is already full for Year 10 in September with a waiting list also in place for their pre apprenticeship course at Sixth Form. Enrolment is still open for students wanting to study A Levels or T Level Engineering.
