An epic tale of sunshine, showers and enjoyed hours in beautiful Northumberland. Saturday began with a gloomy outlook as we boarded our coach to Bamburgh. However, 52 souls, with hope and enthusiasm in their hearts, set off for another wonderful day out on our ACORN trip to visit bonny Bamburgh. As we approached the awesome castle and village the clouds cleared, and the sun rose over the magnificent Bamburgh Castle which is always awe inspiring.
Coach driver Ian ensured that we were dropped off at the high point of the village enabling those who are not so mobile to saunter downhill to the pickup point. After the obligatory toilet stop passengers dispersed to find local cafes / pubs for a mid morning snack and drinks.
Adventurist passengers then dispersed to discover the dunes and beach whilst others found their way into the castle, interested to see artefacts displayed there.
We had arranged to rejoin the coach at 1.00pm which was just as well as the forecast showers decided that was a good time to catch us out. Of course, as Northerners, this did not dismay us unduly as we set off to Seahouses for the second part of our odyssey.
Fish and chips are always a favourite meal in this pretty seaside harbour and town. Although not a large town, we all managed to find something to do, shopping in the quaint little shops, wandering the harbour walls or even sampling the drinks or food in local hostelries into which we were driven by occasional showers.
Our next adventure will be to Scarborough in search of Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme.
