June’s outing for Aycliffe Fell Walking Club took them to Herriot country with a selection of walks from Devonshire Arms, Bolton Abbey, to the bustling town of Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales. Here is an account of a typical day out with AFWC from one of the walkers.
“Caught coach at Bishop Auckland and away we went, picking others up on way. Absolutely lovely walk from Bolton Abbey to Grassington. Beautiful scenery en route and the weather was perfect for the whole walk. Calling in for a quencher at a pub in Burnsall along the way and meeting up with the rest of the walkers at the end – such a friendly crowd and a great walking group! Change of boots then a cafe for green tea and a knicker-bocker glory (chocolate free) then onto the pub to join the rest of the walkers in the sunshine for a catch up. They filmed the James Herriot second series here in Grassington and the cafe had lots of photos in frames, of them and the crew, on their walls A fantastic day all in all.”
AFWC is always interested in signing up new members. If you are interested, please visit www.aycliffefellwalkingclub.com for details of all our walks and get yourself signed up. Next walk: Saturday 13th July, Rosthwaite to Keswick via various routes.
