Sunday’s show was a health and fitness special with local athletics world record holder Laurie Cummings, and our resident health and fitness professionals Tina and Matt from Space to Thrive health and Fitness. Check out Matt and Tina’s Facebook page for details of their forthcoming health, fitness and meditative retreats, the first one is for ladies, with further residentials planned for the future details available on their Space to Thrive Health and Fitness facebook page and website.
Laurie Cummings is 83 years young and, in Laurie’s case, the word bionic would be more appropriate than spritely for a person of his age. His resume is quite exceptional; from Queen Scout as a child to police officer, with a number of commendations and a bravery award to his name. A police explosives officer retiring after 31 years service. Looking for another challenge to keep him out of mischief, he became a Sub Aqua diving instructor working in Turkey and Egypt with close to 13,000 dives to his credit.
If that wasn’t enough, Laurie’s wife Judy acts as his personal trainer and dietitian and encourages him in his passion for running and, as a result, Laurie holds every age category record in 5k Park Runs covering Durham, Northumberland, Cumberland, parts of North Yorkshire, Scotland, and other parts of the UK. I suspect Laurie hasn’t peaked yet, so who knows what he will achieve next, but we will do our best to keep track of the next stage of Laurie’s athletic journey.
