It’s business as usual and all hoggies in rescue are doing well and should be ok to be released in Spring. The others out in the wild should be hibernating, however, some may occasionally wake up hungry, on that note please, keep your feed stations topped up with fresh kibble and water. The amount of poorly babies I have here that have had intestinal fluke due to drinking dirty water doesn’t bear thinking about. However, I have plenty of medicine here for problems like that.
What is alarming is that some rehabbers are still bringing in little ones, I also have brought in Pixie who has had such a nasty parasite burden she has now turned a corner and is gaining weight, she is from Durham. She was found out alone, no dry nest or siblings, no food or water. I have her here now just like Holly, both small, too small for December, they even share a cage, they have 24hr food, clean, dry, warm bedding and the urgent medical attention they need and deserve. They are going to be fine.
Can I thank Hazel, Anne and Ailsa for their donations, I am very grateful to you all because I have never overwintered so many in all the time I have rescued and I have been doing this for some years now. Any help, however small, is always appreciated.
Pictured above are Pixie and Holly eating together, very lovely little ones, they are a delight to have as they all are.
