On 7th July Michelle Scott travelled to Belgium to compete in the National Championship Brasschatt Sprint Triathlon. She had a fantastic race coming in 3rd lady overall, only 37 seconds behind the current Age Group National Champion Sam Anderson pictured with Michelle.
It was Michelle’s fastest run of the season and shows how well her training for the Age Group World Championships to be held in London in September is going. Michelle has qualified for both the Aquathlon and Sprint Triathlon events.
Robin Horn and Martin Sedgwick took part in the Northumberland Sprint Triathlon. Robin who had not raced yet this year due to injury had a good start to his racing calendar finishing in 1hr 21mins 43 overall and 18th in his category. Martin was close behind in 1hr 24mins 63rd overall and 15th in his category.
On Sunday 14th July Michelle Scott, Vicky Howse and Wendy Bake travelled to Sunderland to take part in the SunCity Sprint Triathlon. It was a damp misty early morning with a very uninviting looking sea, however this did not stop Michelle Scott coming 3rd overall with a brilliant time of 11.02 for the 750m sea swim. On the bike section she was leading lady until the greasy road surface caused her to come off the bike but it was no obstacle as she went on to finish 2nd lady in a time of 1hr 9mins. Vicky Howse also had an excellent race coming 7th in her category in 1hr 17mins. Wendy Bake was 4th in her category after a tough swim with a time of 1hr 39min.
The 24th of July saw Club Coach Andrew Sedgwick travel to France to take part in the Alpe d’Huez Long Distance Triathlon. This is one triathlon not for the faint hearted with a 2.2k swim, 115k cycle and a 22k run on a course which has been made famous by its inclusion most years in the Tour de France. Andy had trained hard for this race and finished in an amazing 9hr and 29min.
