Whitburn Panthers U11 v Heighington FC U11
The team’s first away game saw them step out onto a sloping, muddy pitch at Cleadon. The lads had the better of the play in the first half, but it was tough work attacking up the hill. Heighington found themselves behind at half-time, but came alive after the break when shooting down the slope. Within a minute of the restart, Christopher struck a great goal high into the net, his first for the team. Tommy’s weaving dribbling bagged a couple more and William was also on the score sheet, pouncing in the box for his first goal. There would have been more had it not been for the Whitburn goalkeeper’s heroics. MOTM: Connor was solid at the back when asked to fill a gap, and his nonstop running and tricky footwork was always a threat going forward.
Heighington FC U12 6 v SAFC Womens Academy U12 0
A very flattering scoreline is by no means an honest reflection of how this match was played out today. Sunderland’s young ladies showcased a passing style of football which can only be applauded and envied by the hosts. Our boys found their movement on and off the ball very difficult to deal with and we were often found chasing shadows for long periods. This was not lack of effort from Heighington, this was calm quality football from the visitors which was a pleasure to watch. It was a great lesson for us as we have been shown first hand the levels we need to aim for in terms of football and also our approach/attitude.
However, our lads dug deep and conducted themselves perfectly, they played like gentlemen and were a great advert for our club this morning. They did us all proud. Our quality got us our points today and we did play some great stuff too. We scored some fantastic goals and we could have won it by more but I think most would agree that the ladies were the example of a team trying to play fluent passing football today. MOTM: Jack Collingwood, three fantastic goals, looked dangerous all morning and looked like he enjoyed himself.
MOTM: Lucas Faulkner, worked tirelessly on and off the ball today, chased every lost cause, pressed every goal kick, challenged every ball up front. A great captains performance.
Shincliffe U14’s 3 v Heighington U14’s 0
Heighington succumbed to their first defeat of the season against a resolute Shincliffe side. Playing with a stiff wind against them in the first half opportunites were at a premium for both sides and Heighington were happy to go in with a clean sheet at half time.
Half Time: Shincliffe 0 – Heighington 0.
Playing with the wind at their backs, Heighington started the half strongly but without ever creating clear openings for their strikers. Shincliffe continued to be a threat on the break and from one of these counters they opened the scoring. The home side then doubled their lead when a cross from the left was deflected into the goal by the head of a Heighington defender. A third goal was conceded from a corner when an unmarked Shincliffe attacker headed into the goal. The final whistle followed soon after and brought the game to an end. Heighington get the opportunity to put things right with a tough fixture next weekend at home to Jarrow.
