A brand new Rotary Club has opened for business in Aycliffe.
The Rotary Club of Great Aycliffe, which meets at the OakLeaf Sports Complex in Newton Aycliffe, received its official charter from Rotary North East District Governor, Steve Rose, on Tuesday 10th October.
The inaugural President of the club, Geoff Knapton, said “I am delighted to be heading up the new venture. We are looking forward to working with organisations and charities to help raise money and serve the community in as many ways as we can.”
First projects will include plans for a Christmas event, and there will be more under discussion among the 20 members at the weekly meetings at 7pm on Tuesdays.
Geoff said: “It is a very exciting time and we are keen to move forward and make contact with local groups and operations we may be able to assist.”
Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbours, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe and in its local communities.
Rotary North East, which the new club is part of, comprises 1,000 people from all walks of life, all denominations, all ethnicities and all orientations who are dedicated to aiding their communities in villages, towns and cities across the region.
