Durham City Diamonds 2
Heighington FC U12 2
A tight encounter between two evenly matched sides this morning saw the lads play out an exciting draw. Jonah Harrop put Heighington ahead in the first half only for Durham to equalise shortly after. Durham deservedly took the lead into half time after poor marking in Heighingtons defence. We were half a yard off the pace of the game and we lacked the spirit shown in previous weeks …. we were as quiet as mice and seemed very subdued. Wasteful with the ball with many wayward passes to the opposition, often just booting the ball forward without thought or direction and our obsession with giving away needless corners continued to haunt us. We need to address this in training as we need to cut this out sooner rather than later.
The second half was much better with the lads managing to keep Durham out and Lucas finding an equaliser after a fantastic passing move from back to front. The game swayed back and forward with Heighington hitting the post and Durham hitting the bar late on. A great game for the neutral and much credit to our lads who fought in the second half for a point which seemed a million miles away at half time. I think the lads will be disappointed with this result as we didn’t get into top gear until the final 10 minutes and a little more composure in front of goal would have seen us take the points but today it just wasn’t meant to be.
MOTM: Dom Hullah, lively all morning, the one voice that stood out at the back today, communicating superbly and put his name on everything. He was a rock for his defence and his distribution was fantastic, a much needed outlet and confident performance. A reassuring presence all match.

Heighington U14’s 3 – Escomb U14’s 3
Heighington began confidently and raced into an early 2 goal lead through Lennon McCabe and Olly Humphrey but conceded just before half time when the boys failed to clear a free kick swung in from the right.
At half time Mike and Jamie urged the boys to remain confident on the ball and keep possession. Heighington regularly broke through the Escomb rearguard missing several easy chances but conceded two scrappy goals from their failure to deal with corners. It took a late minute equaliser for Heighington to gain a deserved point.
Full time: Heighington 3 Escomb 3.
