The Greenfield Arts Men’s Cree group have once again been working hard to create something positive to be shared with others. They have recently been working alongside facilitator Richard Agar to produce two wonderful oak benches.
The group have worked tirelessly together to design and create the benches to commemorate 75 years of Newton Aycliffe. The Cree group wanted the seats to be donated for the use of residents to enjoy the outdoors. One has found a home at Rose Lodge Care Home and the other was donated to Bethany House Nursing Home, both organisations were thrilled to receive the beautiful benches and have picked out a nice spot for residents to make the most of them. Well done to all involved!
This is just one of many opportunities the Cree have enjoyed over the past few months – as part of the same project they have visited Beamish Museum, where they enjoyed the Norman Cornish Installation. They have also attended a relaxed and fun talk about public art with artist Elaine Vizor. They have recently been making leather journals working alongside practitioner Chris Battye where they learned new skills and enjoyed creating journals and becoming more aware of the world around them as they record their own journey and that of others and their home town.
The Greenfield Arts Cree is a wellbeing group that enables members to explore ideas, express themselves and give to the community to support wellbeing and their own positive mental health. The Cree are inclusive and are always happy to welcome new members. Thank you to Durham Community Action for their continued support.
