Dear Sir,
The next Full Town Council meeting will be on Wednesday 28th July at 7.00pm. Residents may want to attend in order to find out what is happening with regard to the Police presence in Newton Aycliffe.
When the former police station was closed in 2011, then demolished, it had been intended to build a new police station, but budget cuts by the Lib Dem/Tory Government meant this would never happen.
The site was sold to a Care Home and Jehovah’s Witnesses; Durham Constabulary lost 450 police officers in those Lib Dem/Conservative Government budget cuts. The Town Council has concerns about the long term arrangement of the current policing being based in the Fire Station and, in particular, the facilitating of Police Response Teams and the Neighbourhood Policing team in the Town Centre.
The public can ask questions and hear the Police Crime Commissioner and Chief Fire Officer’s answers. It would be interesting to hear from our local MP as to what he is doing about this matter, how many extra police officers Newton Aycliffe has or will receive and what he is doing about a new police station, following his failed levelling up bid for Newton Aycliffe.
