Celebration Walk: Wednesday 27th September
A guided walk to celebrate the 192nd anniversary of the opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway will set off from Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon on Wednesday 27th September 2017.
Volunteers from the Brusselton Incline Group will lead the event, which departs from Locomotion Car Park A – on Redworth Road, Shildon – at 10.30am.
Cars will be shared to the Station Hotel (now closed) at West Auckland. At 11am, the group will walk towards and up and down Brusselton Incline, stopping at Broom Mill Farm Shop en route.
This is a great opportunity to see the newly restored Accommodation Bridge, and to walk up to the Engineman’ House.
Jane Hackworth Young, great great granddaughter of Timothy Hackworth, will be present on the walk; another of her great great grandfathers, Robert Young, was engineman at Brusselton from 1827 to 1848.
The walk will finish back at the car park, then the group will transfer back to Shildon, where they may wish to continue to Locomotion: The NRM at Shildon, where Soho House, the historic buildings and the Coal Drops can be viewed.
Walkers will need to wear sturdy footwear to participate.
