Following the relaxation of Covid regulations, 1407 (Newton Aycliffe) Squadron Air Cadets were able to hold their annual presentation evening last week in the Barnard Armoury. The squadron has had a challenging 2 years but is now growing and continues to provide excellent opportunities for the cadets, as was evident by the number of awards and certificates given out. The event began with the presentation of badges for academic achievements within the Corps and nationally recognised awards such as Essential First Aid certificates and Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards.
The squadron’s trophies for 2021 were then presented by Sector Commander, Sqn. Ldr. Mathew Burton.
The recipients were:
Crabbe Trophy for Aircraft Recognition:
CWO Paul Ughra;
Sedgefield Veterans Trophy for Attendance:
CWO Paul Ughra;
Tom Downs Trophy for Endeavour:
Cdt. Kieran Marrison;
Scott Shield for Most Improved Cadet:
Cdt. Iwo Socha;
Simon Drill Award: Cpl. Matthew Bridges;
Sports Trophy: Cdt. Elizabeth Clay;
Best Junior Cadet: Cdt. Florence Johnson;
Boddy Trophy for Best NCO:
Cpl. James Sillett;
Fryer Shield for Best Cadet:
Cdt. William Dodsworth.
To round off the awards two cadets were promoted in rank, well done to Cpl. Dodsworth and Sgt. Sillett.
The evening was a celebration of the achievements of all the members of 1407 squadron. The range of awards on offer and the high calibre of the cadets shows why the Squadron is still amongst the top squadrons in Durham/ Northumberland Wing. Flt. Lt. Scott would like to thank everyone involved with the squadron for their continued support.
If you are in year 8 or above at school and are interested in finding out more about us then come along to the Barnard Armoury ARC on a Monday or Thursday evening between 7pm and 9pm for a chat.
