On Saturday 10th September, 81 year old Laurie Cummings from School Aycliffe completed his 100th 5k Parkrun at Leazes Park, Newcastle, which was an age category record.
Laurie has achieved this milestone over three age categories since he was 70 years old and holds 27 different records at courses across County Durham, as well as in Yorkshire, Northumberland, Lincolnshire and Warwickshire.
This year he has gained a 1st place in the over 80s category in the Darlington 10k and the Newcastle Quayside 5k race as well as taking part in the Masters Track events at Monkton Stadium, Jarrow, holding six UK records in the over 80 age group.
Laurie loves his running and would encourage anyone of any age or ability to take up running – try programmes like ‘Couch to 5k’ or just get outdoors and work up to your first local 5k Parkrun, which you can start by walking, jogging or running, whatever you can manage.
